MDHS Alumni Association
Awards Three Outstanding Seniors
With $500 Scholarships
Kamela Jones, MyHanh Le, and Esther Robles were each presented with $500 Sscholarships at Mt. Diablo High School’s annual Senior Awards Ceremony held in Romaine Hall on Thursday, May 24, 2001.
Because of the many accomplishments MD’s Technology Academy consistently exhibits, and in recognition for the excellent way the program represents Mt. Diablo High School to the public, the Alumni Association Planning Committee members chose to honor three students from that program.
The recipients, who have maintained high grade point averages, and have been accepted to colleges for attendance in the fall, were recommended and chosen by Tech Academy teachers.
"Stars…" is how Tech Academy Social Studies teacher Heather Nevis describes the young women. Nevis went on to describe their leadership and participation at school and in the community.
The scholarships were given in memory of MD alumna Ruth Galindo, who recently passed away. Galindo was a Spanish teacher at MD for 32 years. Until a few years ago, Galindo returned to Mt. Diablo High School each year to attend the Senior Awards Ceremony and present the Ruth Galindo Award to a deserving senior.
An active member of the community, Galindo was well known and loved by several generations of Concord natives. The Galindo family were among the original settlers of Concord.
An anonymous member of the MDHS Alumni Association gave generously to the scholarship fund so that these scholarships could be awarded this year.
Mt. Diablo teacher and alumna, Christina Huvelle, ’85, presented these awards to Jones, Le and Robles for the Mt. Diablo High School Alumni Association.
